tribe of Judah
tribe of Judah (descendants of Judah)
Judah was the fourth son of Jacob and Leah, and his descendants formed the tribe of Judah, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. The tribe of Judah played a significant role in biblical history, being the tribe from which King David and, according to Christian tradition, Jesus Christ descended. The tribe settled in the southern part of the land of Canaan, which later became known as the Kingdom of Judah after the division of the united monarchy.
